Shepard Fairey on The Brian Lehrer Show

September 17, 2015

Shepard Fairey was featured on WNYC's The Brian Lehrer Show on the opening morning of On Our Hands at Jacob Lewis Gallery. Fairey speaks about his first exhibition in five years, his environmental concerns, his new monograph Covert to Overt: The Under/Overground Art of Shepard Fairey (Rizzoli, 2015). He also discusses his "inside/outside strategy," where he creates public works as well as fine art with a puck rock mentality, while also critiquing the system from within.

On his choice to show at Jacob Lewis Gallery, Fairey says, "To follow up [the May Day exhibition at Deitch Projects] was going to be challenge. Jacob Lewis is someone who I've worked with at Pace Prints, and he finally got his own space, and I felt I had the right venue, the right body of work. I'm always doing a lot of projects but I'm more selective about where I show so I get the maximum impact."

On Our Hands is on view September 18 through October 24, 2015.
