Jacob Lewis Gallery at Art Wynwood 2017
Jacob Lewis Gallery is pleased to announce its first participation in Art Wynwood 2017. The contemporary art fair’s sixth edition will take place February 16–20, with a VIP preview February 15 benefitting the Miami City Ballet at The Art Wynwood Pavilion, 3001 NE 1st Avenue. Highlights of Jacob Lewis Gallery booth AW215 will be works by Shepard Fairey, How and Nosm and Emilio Perez.
Shepard Fairey, represented by Jacob Lewis Gallery in New York City, will be honored with the Art Wynwood Tony Goldman Lifetime Artistic Achievement Award at the fair with a trophy designed by artist Ryan McGinness. The award acknowledges individuals whose careers have shifted discourse within the industry and is presented in partnership with Wynwood Walls, a project founded by the late Tony Goldman in 2009 to transform the district’s warehouse buildings into giant canvases for contemporary street artists.
Artist, activist and founder of the OBEY streetwear brand, Fairey creates indelible paintings, posters and murals that critique the ever-changing political landscape. His practice is a simultaneously hopeful and damning call for independent thought in America. Most recently, Fairey released “We the People,” an international poster campaign protesting the current U.S. presidential administration in solidarity with the Women’s March on Washington.
Also on view in booth AW215 will be photographs by Quinn Gorbutt, works on paper by João Vasco Paiva, and paintings by Michael Bevilacqua, Josh Reames, Hajime Sorayama, Christian Rex Van Minnen and Matthew Weinstein.
A conversation between artnet News Associate Editor Sarah Cascone and Shepard Fairey will take place Friday, February 17 at 2pm. The Lifetime Artistic Achievement Award dinner will be held at db bistro moderne, 255 Biscayne Blvd. Way, Miami on Friday, February 17, 7:30pm.
